confession: plastic surgery didn't change my life.

Date: October 15th, 2009 12:07 PM Author: kink-friendly really tough guy so when i first came for my consultation with the doc, i was reading all these cards and letters previous patients had sent him about how they're so much more confident after plastic surgery, how it's changed their life.
2 months after the surgery, i'm happy with the results and i feel a general improvement in my appearance, but it can't be described as life-changing, or even major for that matter. i feel a little more comfortable in my own skin, but i still don't feel pretty.
that said, i'm done with the knife for the foreseeable future (will have to get the girls redone eventually). |

I just couldn't do it because I respect my parents too much and would hate to wear proof that my daughter's face is "ugly" and needs to be changed should she be born with my biological nose.
I can't judge harshly, though. It's hard having a big nose in a society that truly loves tiny button noses. |

And I'm not against plastic surgery. If you don't have the confidence to pull off whatever God gave you then go right ahead and get surgery. But when you get it done and still don't feel any prettier (even though there's an obvious difference) then there's a problem there that no amount of surgery can fix. You are objectively attractive. I think it's likely that you've never had a "compared to what." People like to measure themselves against both their own past and against those in their cohort.
You're probably surrounded by a bunch of young, upper middle class or wealthy professionals, for whom looks are important. Probably most are at least average, and many are attractive.
Moreover, board consensus indicates, and I would agree, that you were very pretty pre-op.
So where does this leave you? Your close (if indeed they are) acquaintances are still pretty. The attention you get hasn't changed. You have no external indicia that show you that you've experienced something dramatic. You are as you ever were. Whatever deep-seated insecurities you had will remain, then, unless they were all focused on, say, your nose and your boobs. Evidently, this isn't the case.
Gay though this surely will sound, perhaps therapy might be an option. Equally helpful could be the right boyfriend. |
