At Dubai Airport (Edinburgh- fuck you all thread)

Date: December 10th, 2009 4:13 PM Author: Pearly Clown Wrinkle I am at the Dubai airport, waiting to board a flight to London for a series of business meetings (yep, related to the current crisis. Several of our clients are heavily involved in the Dubai World pending collapse). Then to the States to my wife and baby son for the Christmas holidays. We all return to Dubai, the happy family, in January.
In case some of you haven't noticed, I have not posted on this board since September, save for a thread on Dubai. Finally clued in to that no one seems to like me, and I don't like most of you. This is going to be as close to a farewell thread as I have no intention of ever posting here again.
For those of you who want to quit, it's surprisingly easy. Put it out of your mind for a few days and you'll be shocked at how easy it is to forget that xoxohth even exists. If you do stray here the banality of the posts will make you leave in a hurry.
Last chance at questions/ answers about Dubai or anything else you want to ask. One warning: I will not reveal anything remotely close to my job or my clients' affairs.

Abu Dhabi could be the next boom town, but it will be a longer, slower boom rather than a stratospheric boom.
Something like Dubai isn't going to happen for another generation or two. Perhaps one of the 'Stan cities? There's a fair amount of natural resources in those countries. |

but now people are like "dang that was the epicenter of overexpansion." |

Date: December 10th, 2009 4:38 PM Author: Pearly Clown Wrinkle It overbuilt, absolutely. The whole financial setup has to be substantially reformed and become much more transparent, especially ownership issues and the entire sukuk/islamic financing bit.
But I do think Dubai will eventually get back on its foot as a regional hub. Not like New York or London, but eventually comparable to Singapore. |

Singapore is certainly a major player in Asia, especially in shipping and shipping is one economic advantage Dubai has going for it (despite the recent decline in worldwide shipping. It's still strategically placed and has excellent port facilities) |

If we're out here long enough, the American School of Dubai is decent enough, or one of the top British schools. I have corporate debenture at ASD and one of the better British schools.
If we become long-term expats whether in Dubai or elsewhere in the Mid East/ Asia, boarding school either the US or the UK when he's 13 or 14. |

It has nothing to do with the US's decline, not that I think it is headed for a permanent decline. Once Obama goes things will get better. |
