I know, the answer is probably "never." No, I haven't done this. I've thought about it in the past for like 5 seconds but I decided it wasn't worth getting caught.

But let's say you want to apply for a job. You KNOW you can do what the job requires. You fulfill all the reqs for the job... except for the required amount of experience. Anybody ever thought about lying about something like that? Like making up a reference, putting a false biz on your resume, or some shit like that?

if employed, checkable things: edu, degrees received, old jobs titles, old job times, old employers, so can lie about responsibilities and accomplishments as they won't contact your current employer.

if unemployed, checkable things: above and old job responsibilities and accomplishments as they might be able to contact old employers.

if hiring is done by hr in a big comp, don't fucking do it.

basically it's safest to lie at small comps where there aren't hr staff who spend 40 hrs a week hiring and checking.

basic background checks pull up names of employers, time employed, and title and shit.

Just don't say you wrote the brief when you wrote the memo prepping the brief. This is the most common lie from SA/govt gigs.

I had a college/ high school friend whose resume had a list of those prizes. I was sort of impressed but I found nothing at all as I tried to check them out.

what about your own school's moot court competition? not the whole class will participate. and there are 'awards' like 'top ten briefs' or some shit like that. is it worth anything?

I made up a list of these for high school commencement. They were sprinkled among the real ones, but their titles were outrageous:

"Michael Wilbon Medal of Wisdom"

"Sir Richard Branson Distinguished Reader Award"

"California Pension Fund Scholar's Trust"

"28th degree Nobleman, Elfhame Council of Members"

Would not advise to pass these along in a resume.

If you come from a shitty little town, and you're applying for a job in a big important town, chances are pretty slim that anyone who sees your resume will know anyone from your hometown, so you can pretty much write a fairytale about past involvement in volunteerism and charitable activities.

What are you afraid of? You have two options:

1. Don't lie and don't get the job.

2. Lie and get caught, costing you the job but probably nothing else OR Lie, maybe get the job, and don't get caught.

I fail to see how 2 is worse than 1. Our entire economy is all about scamming each other, and it's not like anyone else has any morals either.
