The idea that the show is particularly edgy or controversial or enlightening either relies on the worst characterizations of vapid reporters who have never seen more than 5 minutes of the show, or straw men to support this kind of cynical critique.

The only thing I've ever found noteworthy about the show is that it's consistently fresh and funny in a period where I don't find much else on television that fits this bill, and I strongly suspect that's all the production team is really shooting for.
