Harvard: 166-172 Yale: 168-174 Stanford: 165-170
Chicago: 165-172 Columbia: 166-172 NYU: 167-172
Michigan: 164-168 Penn: 163-167 Virginia: 163-169
Boalt: 162-168 Cornell: 163-166 Duke: 162-168 Georgetown: 163-168 Northwestern: 164-169
If you want T14 you have to be as good as the MVP kids back in the day. Lesson: don't go unless your stats are near perfect. 3.8/174. |

(1) Cultivate your people skills.
You have nothing to offer society in the way of tangible skills/ knowledge. So you have to be good with people to get jobs from here on out. Learn to network effectively, and start doing it now. Forget friends. By your age, your circle of friends is likely set. Yes, you will make some more friends here and there. But for the most part, the people you will meet now should be thought of as professional contacts. Always maintain a professional demeanor, and ABC (always be closing). What are you selling? Yourself. It's exhausting, but it's life.
If you got this part down, GREAT, you have nothing to worry about.
(2) Learn some computer skills.
Get good with MS Office, and learn networking and programming.
That's it. You said you are a female. If you are relatively attractive and have good people skills, you are set for life. You don't have to worry about much. If you are ugly, you got some serious work to do, as society had a huge bias against ugly women.
If you are attractive, seriously look into sales. I don't know how Pharmaceutical Sales are these days, but that used to be a gold mine for attractive females back in the day |

Sign up with temp agencies and try to get with one that places people to do admin work for city/county/state government. Depending on their needs they could have you stuck as a permatemp or there might just be an opening available you could interview for as a permanent hire. A political science degree is reasonably relevant for this as it shows an interest in government. One concern they tend to have is people getting sick of the boring work and lack of advancement and therefore leaving.
Also worth your while to see if the poli sci department does government internships of any kind, and of course also apply directly for jobs, too. I went the route described above in my second paragraph after being dinged for an entry level state job that had people with like 20 years of experience trying to get in. |
