Not to be confuzzled with CS, which is actually very prestigious....
However, pharma and accountacies do have decent upsides if you eventually become sales or biz dev side and partner, respectively.

Many people in IT don't even have CS degrees, they just get a few relevant certifications and some experience and they're good to go.

I once considered law school but passed it up after landing a solid gig with the federal govt in IT.
I only have a UG degree in Econ from a top 50 school. Some grad school, but no graduate degree.
Make 75k+, rock solid job security and great benefits and vacation. I own a number of websites I started during UG which brings in a solid side income I could live off of if I really wanted to.
My job is great and the days fly by. |

The only ITs I know of that work for the fed that do not have UG degrees are people who started as grunts in a non-IT related field and worked their way up and were really good with technology and took advantage of all the training the fed gives. These are people who started in the fed a good 10 years ago.
These days a federal job is hard to get. They typically won't hire anyone without an UG degree and prefer those with graduate degrees. The federal govt is packed full of education whores.
BUT, if you have VERY SOLID WE, you may have a shot.
EDIT: If you have a non IT related degree (law) and solid WE in IT or a cert of some kind, you may also have a chance. But really, most ITs I know have UGs in math, econ, comp sci and/or some kind of graduate degree in Info Tech.
