"Mr. Whokebe," the host says, "for 11 points, and the game...General Ulysses S. Grant masterminded the Siege of Petersburg during the American Civil War. What was the name of the Union Brigadier General who was instructed by Grant to take Petersburg? Who was the Confederate General who held Petersburg? And what was the name of the battle taking place on February 5-7 of the Petersburg Campaign?"
Whokebe removes a handcloth from his suit pocket and dabs his forehead. He then crosses his arms and ponders for a few seconds.
"May I take the second part last?" he asks.
"Certainly."
"The name of the battle was Hatcher's Run. The Union General was a charming fellow by the name of...I believe William F. Smith."
"Correct. And the name of the Confederate General?"
"Let's see...I believe it was P.G.T. Beauregard."
"That is correct! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!"
As the audience erupts into applause, a man standing alone and quietly smoking in the back of the studio stares at the stage. He calls an assistant over to him.
"Call the Pentagon," he says. "I've found our man."
