The best advice I can give is to take a good course such as powerscore or testmasters. I didn't find the lessons themselves that helpful but all of the material and the fact that it makes you study on a regular schedule really helped motivate me as I'm a lazy fuck and need all the motivation I can get. It helped me go from a 158 to 169 on my second try.

That's not so bad. If you get a 170+ on the LSAT, the top 14 is within reach. If you do well but not quite that well, you could get into a lot of semi-national Tier 1 schools.
Where do you want to work?

A 3.3 is low? ...I really should have gone to class in undergrad. I kind of like having the lowest undergrad gpa in my law school though.

AFAIK all app-cycles are harsh on high GPA/low LSAT splitters.
this time around it seems to be a little tougher than usual with a high LSAT / low GPA.

If you look on LSN (http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com) you can get a general sense of what's going on.
170/3.3 is generally considered a splitter-- traditionally this would get you into at least one of the T14, but my experience (in applying late) is that you will get on a lot of waitlists and holds.

If you have good WE you should be in at NU.
At first I thought that it was a gimmick, but since NU takes the higher LSAT, they would treat my numbers as _______ with little/no WE. Result: waitlist.

50 hours a week during school working as an editor for a prestigous independent paper. hoping they count that.
otherwise i know i'm screwed.
congrats on the retake lsat. did you interview?

Yea, I interviewed. It was nice but a bit weird since I showed up in sandals and a t-shirt while the other interviewees were meandering about in suits and ties.
I've seen a few other high LSAT / sub 3.0 applicants get into NU, so it shouldn't be impossible. 50 hours per week is a lot, hopefully they do something with that.

No, it was a student. And "dress to impress" cuts both ways.
I talked with the student for over an hour. I liked him (the student) and the school, but really I just wanted an excuse to go visit Chicago.
