They vary substantially, spending on whether it is 8, 24, 48 hr, or 2 wks. On average, expect to the page limits to be about 10-15 double spaced pages.

Many of my profs have insanely short word limits. This is more frustrating than long ones, really.

For an 8 hour exam I usually write ~10p.

I'm sure some do. No need for the library, AIM and phone probably do the trick. but everyone is competitive and A's are few and far between so collaboration is probably rare.

Law school exams just don't work that way. To get an A, you have to write what the prof wants to hear in the style that he wants it written. You can't 'collude' to achieve that.

"To get an A, you have to write what the prof wants to hear in the style that he wants it written"

I don't know about that. At my TTT it seems to be "whoever can cram the most issues into the page limits wins." If that's the case, some collusion could definitely skew the grades. X has issues that Y doesn't have. Y has issues that X doesn't have. They include each other's issues and they both win.

At my school just to hit the curve you have to get all the issues. Analysis and polish is what bumps you up, especially in an upper-level course.

It isn't like math, where "that smart guy has all the right answers." 10 B students working together will pull a B+ if they're lucky.

Unless you had a fairly long time period for revising, I don't see how you could possibly do that and still produce 10 distinctly unique essays.

True. If you know you have all the issues spotted by 9 other people, and you notice one more, you're going to screw the curve and yourself by sharing it.
