There has been an explosion in obesity in America over the past 30 years. This isn't debatable. It's quite possible that environmental toxins are factors. But I don't know how anyone could argue that there haven't been drastic changes to how much the average person eats and exercises in the past 30 years or so. In decades past, not everyone had a car, and families who owned cars usually had only one. People didn't live in sprawling suburbs without sidewalks, so they could actually walk places. Kids walked to school because they could--and because they had to. People ate 3 square meals a day, usually home cooked in reasonable portion sizes. They didn't walk around sipping flavored coffee drinks and having mid day snacks while shopping at Target. |
