Date: May 16th, 2012 11:47 PM Author: House-broken Disgusting Internal Respiration i'm opposed to b-school admissions consultants for the most part because they add very little value given how much money they charge. and the incentive system, whereby you pay the entire amount upfront even before they start helping you, as well as the lack of any type of refund or guarantee, is deeply problematic in my opinion.
a lot of top finance folks use Sandy "HBSGuru" Kreisberg, who is probably the foremost expert on mba admissions. they have money to spend, so for them it's sort of an insurance policy. problem with sandy is that unlike consulting firms, he does all the work by himself. given that he has tons of clients, it will take a long time for you to get feedback from sandy. so the quality of service isn't that great, but he's very good at assessing one's chances before you apply and giving you a dose of reality. i had a brief consultation with him when i was applying, and he told me that HBS and Stanford are "pipe dreams" (his exact words) and that wharton will be around a 25-30% chance depending on how well i execute my essays. he also told me that i will most likely get waitlisted at kellogg because i'm not their "type," which is exactly what happened.
not sure what your friend's financial situation is, but since her resume and background are so strong, i really don't think she needs a consultant. she can have friends proofread it, or use services like essay snark, where you pay per essay rather than pay an exorbitant fee for the entire application. your friend is in great shape. |

but if you want to work in the U.S. I would take any M7 over insead, and depending on the field, probably even tuck/haas/stern. |

wharton, however, does have a calculus exam during pre-term in august that you have to pass in order to continue there as a student. but there is a refresher course that helps you do that. and from my knowledge no one in my class failed it.
