It means a lot of guys who might have done better with a blue collar job, learning real skills, are instead camping out for four years. We're starting to see that bubble burst, as employers are now asking recent grads for work experience AND degrees. The idiots take out more loans for grad school, but the average college kid might have been better off using those four years to get a solid employment record.
College also isolates the middle class from the working class. When the middle and working classes are at each other's throats, it's easy for the rich to pick them both off. |

Your average blue-collar worker knows this and resents it. I went to college, but most of my friends are blue-collar. It's amazing the sheer contempt they have for their bumblefuck college-educated supervisors.
Middle-class SWPLs wonder why the working class consistently "votes against its economic interest." I think it's because they know neither party really gives a shit about their economic interests. A lot of opposition to the progressive agenda is driven by personal loathing for progressives. |

In reality, how many guys are there out there today under 30 who are very financially successful but don't have college degrees? Women may be okay with the HS grad who founded his own company and is worth $30 mil, or the popular actor who never got a degree, but that's a small set of men.
I think what IS happening is that women don't like to date/marry a guy they view as below their level, so the guy needs to match or outdo them in some combination of credentials/financial success/power. I don't have hard evidence of this, but I'd be willing to bet that if you looked at married women with a PHD, JD, MD or MBA, you'd find that the vast majority of their husbands either (i) also have one of those degrees or (ii) significantly outearn their wife (who likely has a well above-average earning potential already). As more and more women are going to school, getting grad degrees, becoming professionals, this is obviously creating a situation that doesn't work out in either gender's favor. |
