Would you trade $200k of debt for two years of partying? Especially if you knew your best chances coming out would be a career that pays well but isn't fulfilling (e.g. i-banking, MBB)?
BTW: just met a Harvard grad, 26, who runs his own $60M business. Never took venture funding. I bet he styles on all his friends. |

But the culture of MBB (mostly Bain and BCG) demand that their workers put on a happy face. MBB is actually similar to Biglaw where the partners constantly have talks with non-partners about whether they should find another job -- the expectation is that you quietly exit.
Not so in banking, most guys I know from analyst to VPs all hate it and openly admit it. Occasionally there's a few whose personalities are so workaholic they actually like it -- those people I definitely have respect for.

Date: September 28th, 2012 3:27 PM Author: Federal Know-it-all Legal Warrant this is credited. a good friend interned at BCG this summer, and he got a bad review for not being a "team player" and for not being "social" enough. he was pissed at how much bs it was, but he still likes the acutal work and the perks. for instance, his summer intern class went to miami for a weekend retreat where BCG paid for hotels, flight, bottles at a hot nightclub. and this weekend, he's in so cal for another retreat, for MBAs who got full-time BCG offers. and the MBB exit opps are unbeatable. A couple really hit it big (start their own business, work at a fund, etc.) but most I know are simply looking at middle management at your fairly normal range of tech and F500 companies.
The guys who do really well exit into a great job because their MBB experience gave them insight into a particular sector that they really like - but that's highly luck based. |
