You're basically renting the cloud rig. Via Ultimate service you get a threadripper CPU + 4080 desktop GPU and the cost is like $200/year. Plays pretty much everything maxxed out at 4k. You have to own the game on a service synced to the service (Steam, Epic Store, Xbox store, UPlay, etc.) AND it has to be a game on the service (a huge number are but some aren't). Also, a bunch of Xbox Gamepass games are now on. |

PC Games Hardware Germany has gone back and retested Nvidia's GTX Titan, which launched over a decade ago, to see how it performs in 2024. The review outlet found that the tables have turned on the Kepler GPU, and most games made today are not compatible due to missing features. Of the few modern games that do run on what was once among the best graphics cards for gaming, only a handful are playable at ultra settings.
It's worth mentioning that the particular GPU PCGH reviewed was the original GeForce GTX Titan that was unveiled in 2013, based on Nvidia's Kepler architecture. There have been multiple iterations of the Titan throughout the years, with some sharing names with their predecessors, so it's a bit difficult to keep track of each Titan SKU. The Kepler-based GTX Titan debuted with 6GB of GDDR5 memory operating on a 384-bit bus, with 2,688 cores, 876MHz boost clock, and a 250W TDP.
Despite being Nvidia's flagship GPU from 2013, PCGH found that the Kepler GPU is a very poor gaming GPU in 2024. The biggest issue with the GPU is its age and lack of modern features. It barely qualifies as a DirectX 12 compatible GPU at all, meeting only the base specification without any extra features. It also only supports DirectX 12 through software emulation, which is less efficient than native hardware support. This is due to the fact that DirectX 12 was released two years after the GTX Titan debuted in 2015.

Also, I bought those cards for something like $800-$900 each and sold them for around $500-$600, so it didn't cost me that much money, especially considering that I held them for a long time and skipped a gen of GPUs.
Lastly, the original titan had very good price/performance. Yes, it was expensive in absolute terms, but the performance was literally a full generation ahead (30-50% faster) than anything else you could buy. It was only later that NVIDIA started cranking out "Titans" with marginal performance increase over the mainline card that still had a huge price premium. The original Titan was an absolute beast and had great resale value because of how well it held up against the following generation of cards. |

the only reason i even upgraded to the 6900xt is because i literally got it for 45% off sticker (it outperforms the 4070 ti, btw). had to spend a pretty penny on my custom loop for it but still worth it imo

The 4090 was already enough for 90% of games and would run just about everything maxed at 120fps. I've been trying that last 10% of games (and also VR) and it's a big jump forward.
Cyberpunk in particular is INSANE on a 5090. The raytracing is so intense that it runs in the mid 30s with DLAA (extremely good anti-aliasing) on. But these new 3x and 4x framegen models can push it to 120fps+ with amazing image quality.
For comparison, the 4090 has to run DLSS (upscaling performance enhancer) instead of getting the visual bump from DLAA, and even then it's going to constantly dip under 60fps due to only having 2x framegen and being weaker overall.
The visual difference is night and day, probably the biggest generational leap I've seen. I haven't been this impressed since running Crysis on triple SLI builds. |
