After a point, everyone's personality and intellect get old and really don't hold any surprises and it's more about getting along and being able to overlook their flaws due to the things you find appealing. Usually by this stage, nobody is interested in being "taught" anything and there isn't anything left unique to be taught about.
I'm asking because what you're describing really sounds like something that initially important your attraction, but ends up really not mattering down the line. I assumed OP is referring to somebody you want to settle down with. That doesn't mean the initial attraction is important, but I don't think you'd weight it as heavily if you've been through some serious LTRs where that kind of novelty ceases to be a factor. |

Everyone is different and depending on how much time you spend together and your own personalities, it's always different. I'd say a baseline would at least be spending the amount of time weekly that I described. There's a big difference between a LTR 'couple' and just two people who are seeing each other and not fucking anyone else at the time.
So based on the reasoning you offered for needing a guy who is substantially smarter than you and can school you on X topics, I get the impression that you're only thinking about this in terms of initial attraction. That's fine, just trying to get a sense whether that's the case, because I do think it's kind of a strange requirement if you're looking at this long term. If you haven't had many successful relationships, it's perfectly understandable that you wouldn't tend to approach the question from that angle. |

the phrase is used often in medicine to refer to a littany of disorders involving the mouth/jaw... i was having a lot of headaches and weird face pain at the time and i was seeing a neurologist, which is why it came up
the guy also happens to suffer from headaches and he sees a neurologist frequently so he was familiar with the term
i dont know why it came up but he said it and it lowered my opinion of him. shrug
when doctors say things to me that i dont understand i look them up... i dunno i just thought it was weird that he never had the curiosity to figure out what it meant after years of hearing doctors refer to it... if he'd never heard the term i wouldnt have held it against him
