I knew the very moment I bought this stock that it was dumb. I am just so greedy, though.

I only have a few thousand dollars. If I do the long-term strategy, okay great, in like 20 years I'll have a good chunk of change.

I want a lot of money NOW though. I want to work my way up to at least $100K, *THEN* I will invest for the long term. You have to have a lot of $$ to make a lot of $$, is the bottom line.

People with "get rich quick" mentalities tend to have problems simply maintaining current assets. Google's past success has resulted in very high future earnings expectations, and people like you who chase yesterday's winners have elevated this stock's forward PE to 55 times these high expectations. Any quarterly results that are short of spectacular will result in a selloff.

It's easy to criticize as 'too high', but the two (probably more meaningful) questions to answer are:

What is the correct price?

and

Why?

I dontr get it.... live next to this place which is like an Island of richness. Im friends with some families over there. Everyone I know there is worth over 100M and many of them tell me they made a killing shorting the market. how can you make so much money when the best you can do is 100% profit? it dosent make sense that they would make more money this way than by buying.

i just think it is easier to identify stocks likely to fall than those likely to rise.

and this 100% distinction matters only when a long position (normal buying) goes up more than 100%, which is uncommon, unless were talking about like over 10 yrs or something holding the same stock.

if you buy the right small-cap and mid-cap stock, you can expect like a 20% return...I think you would be hard pressed to identify a stock that will fall by 20%. I agree that shorting would work for a small period of time, but themn you would have to invest massive amounts of money to see a return, probably on margin, and I dontr think I can pull that trigger. I didnt buy google after much deliberation, doesnt look good fro my trading career

Google just wired the entire city of San Fransisco for free wifi. People are betting that these guys have gotten in on the ground floor of an entirely new and untapped industry. No one is buying google cause they have a good search enging function. I have no idea whether it is a good or bad bet, but i dont think it is irrational. I dont think the 90's bubble was irrational, per se, either. It just turned out that people couldnt roll out technologies fast enough to take advantage of all the fiber optic cable that got layed down. People bet and lost, but i dont think it was a crazy bet.

GOOG is the shit. People aren't investing in its search engine functions but the value it yields, not the value for individuals using google but the value for google in having all of that information. In the information age, GOOG reigns supreme. Microsoft makes software and sells it. GOOG makes software and gives it away and collects the information. Googlezon.
