If a student accepts an offer but then doesn't show up for work and just takes the signing/summer bonus, blacklisted forever from the legal profession forever?

It seems unlikely that you'd work in the same field (i.e. biglaw, govt, whatever) in that city for a long time, assuming you didn't just not show up b/c you already had taken another job.

If you reneged to go to another firm, you wouldn't have as much of a problem. You'd already have a job and wouldn't have to worry about looking for one, and by the time you were looking again you'd probably have built up enough work history to override any bad repuation you might have.

Here's my evidence that doesn't involve comments from others... I interviewed with Cleary. They gave me a sheet that listed summer associates from last summer so I could talk to them about their experiences at the firm. Her name was on there. If she didn't get an offer, I doubt it would have been. Not great advertisement unless she is happy with the outcome.

I was dared to use the sheet of paper as an excuse to ask her about her summer at Cleary. I was too chicken.
