Timber-framed houses are subject to rot, insects, fire, destruction by high winds, warping, etc. Steel framing is a bit more expensive, but over the long-run, it seems worth it.

It's like living in a fucking Faraday cage. Good luck trying to get decent cell coverage or wifi access anywhere in your house.

One of my best friends from high school lived in a steel framed house. They got no cell reception in the basement, and only very weak reception upstairs. The router couldn't get a signal through the floor. They had to buy a whole bunch of access points just to set up a simple network for internet access.

Oh it probably costs a lot more than wood framing. I'd say the minimum purchase price for a house built with steel is 500k.

Steel is also more expensive than lumber (an average-sized, three-bedroom home would cost an extra $1.57 per square foot with steel) and mistakes are more costly.

$3500 isn't all that much, but I don't see much of a benefit. Wood houses last damn near forever anyway.

back fence neighbors just tented their house for termites -- i.e. steeped it with a powerful poison for three days; my other neighbor had to reframe his patio cover bc termites had eaten the framing. a steel framed house would provide peace of mind

In Asia they build houses out of concrete, I'm pretty sure that house is safe from everything, including earthquakes if it is re-inforced with steel.

steel-framed houses aren't all that different from stud-framed houses, except they're screwed together instead of nailed.
