Timber-framed houses are subject to rot, insects, fire, destruction by high winds, warping, etc. Steel framing is a bit more expensive, but over the long-run, it seems worth it.

In Asia they build houses out of concrete, I'm pretty sure that house is safe from everything, including earthquakes if it is re-inforced with steel.

steel-framed houses aren't all that different from stud-framed houses, except they're screwed together instead of nailed.
