A person with at least one parent or grandparent who is Black has a close enough tie to their Black ancestry and heritage for it to actually have an effect on the individual's life and for the individual to formally have become acquainted with their Blackness and what it means to be Black... In regards to marking Black on one's applications, in an attempt to gain an AA boost, it should only be done if the individual has truly embraced their Blackness and not just as a means to progress in life, only to disdain their Black heritage once the individual has succeeded in taking advantage of what AA may offer.... That would also be wrong from a moral and ethical standpoint.... I do not mean that who should and should not mark Black on their apps, should be contingent upon the actual color of one's skin, but the effect that one's ancestry has had on their life, providing that the initial requirements are met....
