I was trapped in Are Country, with no job, no social circle, and no hope. The only person in the world who I could really relate to was Are Country Pumo because he was dealing with a lot of the same issues at the time.

XO was my only real social outlet at the time, and I spent like 8 hours a day shitpoasting about shrews and boomers. I was angry and deeply depressed. I never contemplated suicide, but I did regain about 80lbs after a losing about 100. The weight gain only took about 3 months of binge-eating, and it only made life more unbearable. Looking back on that time, I was eating myself to death.

I was sending out job applications, but this was still 2013 and ITE had not gone away. My bills didn't stop. My unemployment was quickly running out.

At one point that summer, Anon reached out to me privately. I had a private conversation with him about my situation, my previous employer, and my predicament. He suggested that he has a lot of legal writing work for an associate to do, and that I should send him my resume. He told me that there are no boomer shrews at his firm, and the culture was 180. He said at least one other person at his firm poasts, and it's chill-as-fuck work environment.

I sent him my resume, and he saw that my experience is actually relevant to his firm. But almost immediately after I sent him my resume, two other employers, who were closer to my home offered me jobs. He also offered me a job, and we negotiated my possible starting salary and explained how he intended to make that salary grow into the low 6-figure range over the course of a year.

I had no money at the time, and couldn't afford a move to Georgia, but he said he would put me up for a little bit, or find a friend who would if I needed it.

I ended up turning down his job offer because a competing offer closer to home had materialized for me. Still, he asked me to reconsider. I thanked him, and we parted ways.

Anon was one of the few people on XO who knew my real identity. I know he is dead because Anthony Collins was the name of the person I spoke with in 2013.

I never worked for the guy, but in a lot of ways, his interest in hiring me, his respect for my prior work experience, and his generous offer to help me restart my life... kind of restarted my life. It took me out of the doldrums, and was just the spark I needed to lift myself out of the gutter.

XOXO is often a miserable place where poasters can be brutal to one-another. Anon was one of the shining lights who helped to elevate the life of at least this one poaster.

Anthony Collins was a 180 poaster and a 180 human being. May he ride Barbaro into heaven, where he belongs.

When my youngest son almost died at birth and was still in the NICU, Anon sent me a nice message about how it would turn out ok and that he really empathized given his love for his own wife and children. He was a genuinely good guy.
