The US and the military have a huge incentive to play up fears of NK. Thus it follows any GC bootlicking general will greatly overstate the risks.

Yes, NK's artillery is well fortified and well defended against counter artillery. However:

1) those guns are very old as are the stockpiles of ammo. Who knows how many misfires they would experience and half those shels would t even detonate

2) the troops and officers cannot be completely relied upon to pill the trigger knowing it would mean certain death for them and their entire family by a violent counteroffensive

3) counter artillery would be a mix of conventional, missle and bomb strikes combining overpressure, incendiary rounds and possibly even chemical agents to render all arty troops dead or incapacitat d

4) even assuming NK can reliably get some shots off, the ranges to hit most areas of Seoul are at the very far end of the range spectrum and will thus be highly susceptoble to wind and be wildly inaccurate.

You are assuming we are talking about a scenario where NK attacks first. Sure, in that case you're right. But NK will NEVER attack first.

Now the only possible scenario is US attacks first. NK retaliates with suicide option, killing thousands of US troops, civilians, causing the deaths of thousands of Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, British, French, Australians, Canadians, etc., who live in Seoul.

If the North Koreans wanted to harm the US they would just send commando units into the US and conduct guerilla operations. They have had this capaility for 40+ years but never once have they done so. It would be so easy to sneak 1,000 commandos into NYC, have them pose as refular Korean bros, buy guns make bombs and cause utter mayhem in Manhattan.

Lets just do spend all NK resources to develop one tony nuke and a barely functional missile development system just to bomb one city and get wiped out!

There are only a handful of countries in the world capable of launching a missile capable of both carrying a massively heavy nuclear warhead and delivering the package with precision to the US.

Unless you can launch hundreds, those warheads are all going to get shot down long before they reach US territory.

Again, a one-off strike makes no sense at all from NK's perspective, as I mentioned 1,000 trained suicide commandos could do so much more damage to the US.

The status quo benefits all for now- China wants a buffer state, US gets a foothold in Asia, Japan can blame the Korean peninsula and their right wing can stay in power/re-write their peace clause in their constitution, and SK gets peace while the right wing can blame any and everything to NK to get what they want.

Now Moon will become president most likely and this may change- even still, as long as there is no pre-emptive strike I'd rather be under US umbrella than China's- China is too expansionist, too undemocratic for me to tolerate
