What's happening is the statistical phenomena called Simpson's paradox / ecological fallacy - where trends actually reverse when we look at group level correlations compared to individual-level (within group) correlations. For example - wealthier states vote Dem, there's a correlation between state income and voting Dem, but on an individual level within those states (and overall in the U.S.) higher income individuals have a higher propensity to vote GOP, so the individual correlation is reversed from the group level geographical one.
Looks like Hillary did well with some stupid people too. |
