Maybe a few extremely conservative churches will break off, or maybe the SSPX will break communion again. I think schism is less likely over time because liberals have the temptation of quitting religion altogether while conservatives have the temptation of just switching religions. I had a lot of existential angst about the future because I wasn't sure what to do with my life (I was planning to go to law school from the beginning, but this being right after the big recession it seemed like a TERRIBLE idea) and was terrified of being a failure. Combined with the regular stresses of schoolwork, EC's and lack of sleep and I tended to have at least one sustained bout of depression per year. I've been far happier ever since I left school.
On the other hand, it was a tremendous period of personal and ideological growth so it's hard to say it was a bad thing. |

Marriages to other Christians also require dispensations but are still valid as long as they are properly performed.
In practice these dispensations are easier and easier to get with time, which sucks. |

It's not a severe decline but it's perceptible imo. I don't except myself from this decline; I've made fewer poasts in the last year or so and my best threads are all from 2015-2016. |

There's a lot of lazy chatter in the West that Islam needs to have a "Reformation," drawing the comparison with Christianity's own Reformation 500 years ago. The implication is that the Reformation "modernized" Christianity or moderated it, when in fact it did neither. Protestantism was a radical ideology that claimed to be taking Christianity back to its historic roots.
Al Qaeda and ISIS aren't following some 1400-year-old continuous branch of Islamic ideology. Both of them follow Salafism, which is a reformist branch of Islam and has only been a major ideology for about a century.
Looking ahead, there's no reason to assume Islam won't continue to evolve, though in what direction it's hard to say. Technology will probably make society almost unrecognizable in the next century. If we aren't even sure what that technology will look like, how can we hope to forecast how Islam will react to it? The same goes for geopolitical developments. A world where Saudi Arabia and Iran each get nukes and blow each other up is very different from one where that never happens.

I'm in a good spot for the next couple years at least and I think there's space for continued upward movement. I'm terrible at planning 5-10 years ahead, though, so I'll confess I haven't plotted out my whole life or anything. I seize opportunities as they appear and it's worked well thus far.
I never worry about money. If I ever actually get a family that could change, but since leaving school I've always spent substantially less than I earn. |

I'd rate my social life a 175 or so, not so much because others would envy it, but because I'm quite satisfied with what it is and I never find myself attending parties or doing thing that I don't want to do, purely due to obligation/networking/keeping a woman happy, etc. I certainly don't feel like my youth is "wasted" in any way. I've had a lot of great experiences in life. |

The same can apply to the tribal armies Marius fought. Superficially, I think Marius deserves a lot of credit for decisively smashing two big armies that had already crushed major Roman forces. Sullla's foes didn't have the same pedigree.
Then again, as political figures leading armies, Sulla holding command of an army in the field and successfully winning a campaign on Rome's behalf even as a declared enemy of the state warrants praise. We don't have enough details to know how Sulla navigated that crisis but it's impressive nonetheless. |

Everything about that book killed; the characters were great and it moved quickly from one 180 sequence to another without ever getting bogged down. Freedom and the first book are way ahead of the rest, which all sit pretty close to one another.
The back half of Tiger is also really great but sadly most of the book is dominated by Road to Charing Cross which would probably be dead last as a standalone work. |

I do agree that Flashman stalking his slut granddaughter while narrating his Zulu adventures was excellent.

He shows up pretty far into the story, the actual assassination plot is pretty brief, and then he and Flash have this extended fight in a cave which simply ends with Flash getting rescued out of nowhere.
After this there's literally *40 pages* where Flashman does nothing except talk to some women and cavort around Vienna. I don't really get what the point of any of it was, except I guess to show that Flashman finally stopped picking up ladies easily in his 60s? |

I thought Freedom was head and shoulders above the rest (John Charity Spring and Lincoln are both 180), but I love the first one for its description of both Elphy Bey's absurd bungling and the degenerate boy-fucking Afghan culture. And the payoff at the end of Redskins is my favorite twist in the series so far.
They're all great though. Highly recommended, all poasters would enjoy. |

Still, he's not a true dumb. It's easy to tell that he's a pretty smart person who declined rather than simply being a dumb from the beginning. Plus, his instincts can still be very formidable.
2. In addition to the aforementioned intelligence decline, a few extra factors come into play. First, Trump is pretty narcissistic and his perspective has been warped by decades of celebrity. Basically, Trump really can't divide his personal issues from broader political matters. His television ratings and how the media treats him are, I believe, just as important in his mind as, say, economic growth and the North Korean threat. This helps explain why he's repeatedly distracted from important matters by random feuds.
In addition, Trump has suffered from the lack of institutional support. Modern Washington is a massively complex beast, and one reason the Republican and Democratic establishments have proven so sturdy, despite overall unpopularity, is that they command the loyalty of a large number of people with experience who know what they're doing. When Trump's team moved into the White House a lot of them really had no clue how to staff and run the executive branch, and the people with the most knowledge were the most likely to simply sabotage from within for their own reasons. |

I have it plugged into the composite cable slots of a generic HDTV, the same one I use for all my other systems. I've never given a shit about the marginal graphical differences that apparently exist, and while the formatting cuts off a bit of the bottom of the screen, I haven't played a game yet where it's really bothersome. |
