Day 1: Arrive in Florence

Day 4: After spending the weekend in Florence, drive west towards Pisa. Spend an hour in Pisa mostly so my wife can get her fucking Instagram shots. Continue north.

Park car in La Spezia, take the train to a couple of the towns in Cinque Terre. Heard there's not much to do there, spend a few hours getting some photos and maybe a meal. Return to airbnb in La Spezia for the night.

Day 5: Continue driving, spend a couple hours in Genoa before heading up north to Turin.

Days 5-6: Check out Turin.

Day 7: Take the train from Turin to Venice (4 hours). Spend the night in Venice.

Day 8: Leave in the afternoon for Berlin. Spend a day in Berlin.

Day 9: Fly back.

A little worried that's not enough time in Venice, brothers? But I heard it was shitty and touristy so didn't want to stay there long. Accommodations were also pricier there.

I haven't been to Florence in probably 20 years. Even if you have to go to Venice, you could just cop a cheap Venice to Naples flight, or really get there by train. The highspeed Trenitalia isn't bad to Rome (I think 2.5 hours?) and it's another 50 minutes or so from Rome to Naples. Cop DAT pizza, then ferry to Capri and onwards to Positano after 1-3 nights on Capri.

yeah you can do that in Columbus. I don't get people who go on vacations to relax: I like OP's tight itinerary that maximizes sightseeing you can only do in Italy, instead of leisure activities you can do at home.

I hate the kind of drive-by sightseeing in op's itinerary. Yeah we're all tourists so it's all bullshit, but I want to really soak it in and can barely do that in a day, let alone an hour or two. I'd much rather spend several days in one place and just wander around, not be constantly planning out the next leg of transportation and packing.

I agree with you, that's my preferred mode too. However, we're spending a few days each in the major cities (Florence, Turin) and purposely kept Venice to a day because I'm allergic to Chinese tourists. The other places (Cinque Terre, Pisa) by all accounts aren't worth staying for long.

I did a very similar trip a couple months ago. Pisa is actually worth the 1 hour or so you'll spend there. I think you should allot a bit more time to the Cinque Terre - some amazing hiking and it's really fun - if you can get an airbnb in one of the villages (leave your car in La Spezia) it is totally worth it.

Venice is also pretty nice - I think you could do 2 solid days there easily and not feel like you were out of things to do.

Unfortunately wife is pregnant so can't do too much hiking. That's why we need to train into the different towns. Did you drive to Pisa etc? How was that experience?

I live in London, so we flew in/out of Pisa (it is a hub for low cost carriers). Driving was fine, we rented a car at the airport, stayed the night (flight got in late), parked in hotel lot and next morning walked about 15 mins to the leaning tower etc.

Big point with Italy generally is they have a no-drive zone in the center of most cities, big or small (it's called a ZTL), and it's often enforced w/ cameras - so make sure you do a bit of research in advance before driving anywhere and find parking. Pisa is no exception.

For La Spezia/Cinque Terre, there is good parking at the train station so would go with that. One of the paths between the villages (think between the first two) is a short flat walk on the ocean, so that one's worth doing (if it's open, they all close a lot).

It's too much. If you're trying to do a tour like you are cut off a day in Florence and add it to Venice.

You should do 2-3 days Florence. Take a day trip to Pisa while still based there. Also day trip into Chianti.

Doesnt make sense to do Genoa and Turin then go clear across to Venice all in one trip with that short of time.

Do 2 days in bologna on way to Venice and spend remaining days in Venice. Whoever said that about Venice is lying it is the best city in Italy from a tourist perspective and one of the best in the world.

Edit - could also add a full day and night in Siena after Florence.

Turin is cool city, Genoa is OK, neither are worth it on a trip like this.

Either do Florence for the weekend and spend week in Cinque Terre or go east to Venice.

Or do whatever you want I dont give a shit.

I did Italy with my former fiancée three years ago.

Skip Venice. It sucks balls.

Milan is basically a giant outlet mall. The shopping is crazy. We bough like $6k worth of clothes and shit. Much cheaper than in the US. And lots of high end shit you can barely find in the US or online.

Best thing about Italy is just driving in the 180 countryside. Lots of villages whose name I can't even remember beat all the big towns.

Don't go to Berlin. Stop in London or somewhere without a bunch of cunty germans or muslims.

I ran into both in Berlin.

This is true but not sure why you'd recommend London instead, it's not really better (except fewer Germans). Either Berlin or London would be huge disappointment after any Italian trip.
