I don't care too much about Machu Picchu or that kind of stuff. I'm more drawn to exotic locals and stuff like moutain biking death road in Bolivar, checking out those salt flats, etc.
I guess my big Q is what would be the best route. I was originally thinking of starting in Caracas and going counter clockwise down to Lima, but that seems too long and leaves out boliva. |

venezuela isnt safe now and i wouldnt plan a trip in jan to go there bc you dont know what's going to happen.
many countries in south america dont have much in the way of "exotic locals." the andean countries (peru, bolivia, ecuador) are prob best for that.
you really need to focus on one country.
you could do buenos aires and hike in patagonia.
or brazil for carnival. |

SA can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.
go hike and see glaciers in patagonia in el chalten for 4-5 days, and then spend 4 days in BA. maybe go to iguazu if you think youd like a waterfall. |
