In the background is the fact that DB's Russia branch had a money laundering scheme to benefit Russia's Kremlin/mafia elite.
The lib wet dream is that the decision to keep lending to Trump is somehow connected to a role Trump played in the money laundering scheme. The theory would be something along the lines of Trump turning a blind eye to all cash Russian buyers so they could park their dirty money in his real estate. Even if he did, is that a crime? Not a finance guy, but perhaps during the financial crisis it seemed like a good settlement for DB to simply loan Trump the money he owes them and earn interest on it instead of fucking around while he finds another source of funding, especially if that would make Trump agree to a higher dollar amount. Just guessing, but the settlement might have made that loan much more difficult to default on than a normal loan so it wouldn't be much risk. |
