Florida solid Republican with the Puerto Ricans and newly eligible ex-con voters? Seems suspect.

Florida has actually been trending Republican for a while, even though Obama won it the 2nd time. More boomers are moving to the state than minorities.

Florida politics is always a battle between older whites and younger minorities/millennials. Older whites will win for the next 8 years.

yes but it trending to Mitt Romney the second time at a bigger rate than the nation trended as a whole. It trended Republican more than the nation as a whole in 2016 as well.

Hillary's campaign was idiotic for not campaigning in WI. WI has historically been one of the closest states in almost every election dating back to 2000. I believe it was the closest state in 2004.

I mean, it's just insane some of the shit they pulled towards the end of the campaign. They were diverting resources away from toss-up states that ended up going for Trump so they could run up the vote in Chicago and California.

She literally campaigned in Arizona a few days before the election too. Also put a million dollars into Texas or something. While I think Arizona will be a bellwether in 2020, it wasn't there yet in 2016 so that was a DAF move.

pa and mi aren't really battleground states despite trump winning them by a few thousand votes. it would have to be a perfect storm of circumstances (dems re-nominate hillary, nuclear war breaks out, pissed off libs stay home for some weird reason, etc) for him to even be competitive in those states in 2020

not sure about this. populations there are trending older and minority populations not really growing that fast. It would take Trump really imploding in the suburbs to make them completely out of reach.

lol yes.

But I'm not sure why this was a big surprise on election night.

CA voters are like 30% Asian and Hispanic --> both groups love Hillary for some reason and are natural dem constituencies.

Then there's like a 5% black population --> obviously almost all went to Hillary except that chick that starred in Clueless and rants on Fox News now.

Even the white vote in California is basically 50/50 at best for Republicans.

The returns in 2020 will probably be even more lulzy.
