I graduated from a public high school in the bottom quarter of my class. I didn't even have the necessary classes to graduate, so they graduated me under some plan that was supposed to be reserved for special education students so that I wouldnt have to stay another year.

I applied to ONE college (the local one) and was flat out rejected.

Now I go to Columbia Law School, have great grades, and am working at a Vault top 3 Firm.

Anyone have a comparable story of being a complete failure in high school to doing well in law school?

I graduated near the bottom of my high school class. Like 170/200 or something. My counselor said that college probably wasn't a realistic option for me. Five years later, however, I have a 4.0 at a flagship state university (with a full load of classes) and might be looking at a top law school if -- and that's a big if -- I can do well on the LSAT. We shall see.

So, I'll let you know in 2 years...

good luck. I was testing in the very high 170's and ended up wit a 172. if you graduated Summa and score anywhere near where you are testing, then you will definitely go to HYS or CCN.

For some reason 170 might be hard for you. High GPA/Low lsat splitters are much more common in TTT undergrads than in Good ones. Even Berkeley (a good public school) seems to have this problem where peopel with 3.7 will get 165..etc.

I am assuming you have 3.95. Hmmm... You really only need 170 to get into Columbia and Maybe Stanford. 167 will be enough for Berkeley and few other TTT14s. Just don't get 163.

Nice GPA.

this is credited. DO NOT GET BELOW 167. it's really unfortunate, but if you do, you will be shut out of the entire T14. also keep in mind that practice test scores =/= real test scores. most people drop 3 or more points.

If you get below a 167 just retake the LSAT, several T14 schools automatically take the higher score (Northwestern, Cornell) and a few others will take a higher score if you improve significantly.

I scored well below 167 on my first LSAT and got into several T14 on the basis of my improvement.

There are lots of people with 3.9+ GPAs at HYP, too, who don't crack 170 on LSAT. I've heard of a 3.9 from Penn getting a 157, so it can definitely happen.

I went to a severely underfunded public school, where the educational quality was truly shitty. I made good grades, though, and ending up getting into Wharton's undergraduate program, an accomplishment of which I am still (obviously) very proud. I had a complete culture shock, though, being placed in a competitive academic environment for the first time in my life. But thanks to my innate intellect, outrageous humor, irresistable charisma, and prestigious friends, I triumphed over the odds and became a WhartonBred alumni. During the hunt for law schools, I was confident that my Wharton resume would speak for itself. And so it has. And so it has. I am the American Dream.

Parents were super poor immigrants. I went to church-ran preschool then to a super ghetto public K-8 school with daily crime.

After 4th grade I moved out to a truly TTT city in the middle of nowhere (population 20,000) in a TTT state. Graduated near last in my high school but had high SATs. Went to local university (US News third tier) and transferred to top 10 after first year. Kicked ass at new school, got a prestigious fellowship post grad. Now I am working for a V5 consulting firm making 80K a year with guranteed entrance into T5 MBAs.

our high school experiences sound pretty similar. i graduated hs a few months short of my 20th birthday. the summer after my fifth year, i took every bit of summer school available and was still a credit shy of the minimum needed to graduate, but was able to under a rule that allowed a student who was a credit short to do so if the principal signed off on it. i finished with a 1.3 cum gpa, which was bolstered by 5 As in varsity basketball.

i've stayed ttt since then, though.
