The electric car experience itself is great: the regenerative breaking, the gearless acceleration, the low center of gravity, the spectacular control and turning, and having the equivalent of a gas pump in my garage. It’s clear to me that electric cars are vastly superior to gas powered cars in everything except maybe a few small niches where electricity is hard to get to.
However, the problems start with the user interface. Tesla got rid of the entire dashboard and instead put everything in the center console screen. Everything from speed, direction, charge remaining, etc. You also have to use the center screen to run your air conditioning, open your glovebox, or change the fan settings. The problem with this is that you get no haptic feedback for any of it. You have to take your eyes off the road and stare at the screen to turn your fan up. In a normal car interface, you can feel the button and feel the feedback as you turn it up. In a Tesla, you’re just blindly tapping on a screen that’s bouncing with the car. It’s really annoying.
But the icing on the cake is that Tesla keeps changing the UI up. You have to relearn where every control is because they keep “updating” the interface. Relearning this is shit is already annoying, but the updates keep putting more and more things behind menus. You used to be able to turn on your seat warmers from the Home Screen; now you have open a menu up to do it. Same thing with adjusting your seat position settings, and opening the glovebox. The interface with your phone for calls and music is just an absolute disaster now; Tesla clearly wants tos tart their own music service and have Tesla owners pay for it.
Tesla, just fucking stop making your product worse. You’re taking an awesome new product and just giving the market to your competitors.

test drove a model x last summer and was very disappointed. over a weekend of driving there was a series of weird glitches, ranging from annoying (door auto closing on my leg while i was texting - was halfway out of car and my leg was on the pavement) to outright dangerous (the car just coming to a screeching halt in middle of an empty highway at ~midnight for no apparent reason). also the battery life was SPS.
got a GLS and it's about 100x better experience and comfort.

I just got my Model 3 Performance two days ago. I thought I would hate the screen and having to learn where all the buttons are, but then I discovered the voice commands and that changed the entire game. It's literally just as good as Google Assistant. I had it open the glove box, change temp, turn on heated seats/wheel, open trunk/frunk, etc. It's really actually very awesome and alleviates all the problems you mention. I have voice controls in my BMW X5 too, but that's a gimmick that barely works, the Tesla voice controls are very, very good ,at least on the latest models. A friend with a Model Y from 2021 said his voice controls suck.

TY for this post. We have a Model Y on order for the wife. We hated how everything was hidden in the touch screen, but ultimately ordered it for the self-driving capabilities. She drives 150-mile trip frequently.
Is there an alternative you can recommend?

To be fair,
I have spent hundreds of hours researching the EV market and EV tech over the last few years. But thanks for explaining that to me! You sound very smart, so just to confirm — is Tesla with FSD (I am using they colloquially because that’s how people commonly refer to it) a deathtrap on highways unless you are constantly paying close attention and correcting its many mistakes, or is it not? Also, how many hours have spent in that scenario to inform your opinion on that?
I also never said that I own a Tesla, I said I have spent many hours inside of them at this point.

does the company have this capacity or not?
if it does, can it be disabled?
the answer to both questions appears to be 'no.'
therefore, it's not a real car in the traditional sense.

i engage a clutch by mashing a pedal and then shift into a gear of my choosing.
my ac/heater has three knobs. my seat has one rack and one knob. my window admittedly is powered by a small motor in one vehicle, manual in the other.

it's obvious why everything is behind a screen by the way. they want to charge you for services a la carte in the future either as a subscription or as a way to activate features permanently after purchasing.
good job supporting quite literally evil kike GC incarnate.

To be fair,
“This is evil and bad and sick because tons of mindless retards will pay for these kinds of add-ons again and again and again and that’s pathetic and a sad commentary on our diseased society. Also, on an entirely unrelated note, Tesla is dun here and needs to stop pretending to be a software company -- that’s never going to work out for them financially so they will soon be subsumed by their competitors!”
Lol this is literally what the Tesla Bears say, unironically. Incredible.

To be fair,
I personally know a lot of true-believing Tesla fanbois who idolize Elon and love fucking around with their tech-toy cars and will definitely be buying Tesla going forward and are literally obsessed with the brand and talk about it with their friends and family members regularly. Not an exaggeration.
Meanwhile, according to XO (and to be clear this appears to be primarily based on second-hand complaints that poasters have read on Reddit), many if not most Tesla owners deeply regret their purchase and now think the cars are SHIT, the company is SHIT, get out while you still can because Ford or Nissan or whoever are coming to drink Tesla's milkshake any day now, etc.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder what to believe -- my own eyes and ears, or second-hand hearsay mostly drawn from a bunch of disgruntled anonymous literal Redditors? That's a tough one, I better "trust the science" here!

This month's Consumer Reports (I get this and Texas Monthly) confirmed that Tesla is easily number 1 in brand satisfaction among automakers (#2 is Porsche).
Elon Musk is an autistic white-male South African contrarian genius with paleo-conservative and populist impulses and a strong anti-shitlib streak; this site, accordingly, LOVES HIM and roots for him with passion and kinship. Anything else you're seeing is in-group contrarianism or (less likely) real opposition from one of our 3 remaining libs.
None of this has anything to do with the completely legit beef that replacing physical controls with touchscreen isn't analogous to the iPhone replacing physical buttons, both due to the safety issue (operating by feel versus devoting many seconds of eyesight-attention) and because physical cellphone buttons were proving woefully inadequate for controlling the expanding functions of a smart phone, whereas no one has ever complained that it was too cumbersome to turn on their seat heat or open their glove box before Elon Musk came around.

To be fair,
I don't actually disagree with this poast, but:
- Anyone who defends Tesla (either their product of the longterm bullishness of their prospects as a stock to hold) is immediately pilloried as a "pathetic Elon fanboy" or whatever.
- Meanwhile, any degree of angle of attack no matter how patently retarded or trivial -- "this stranger on Reddit says the finish is messed up on his steering wheel" "Brutal takedown by this Asian female automechanic on Instagram of the shitty interior quality of a Tesla" "I ordered a Tesla and their customer service sucks, fuck this company I now badmouth them 24/7 online why yes I do give restaurants 1 star Yelp reviews when I hit bad traffic driving over to eat dinner at them how did you guess?" -- is hailed as THE END for Tesla, WRITING IS ON THE WALL, CAN'T BELIEVE YOU IDIOTS BOUGHT INTO THIS SHIT.
It's all just so gay and retarded and tiresome. The Tesla Bears claim that the Tesla Bulls are obnoxious faggots, but the reality is that they are the worse offenders by far at this point. It's very analogous to cryptoskeptics coming out of the woodwork to shit all over BTCmos and ETHmos for the millionth time whenever there's a dip and then simultaneously claiming that coinmos are the *real* obnoxious assholes.
