I changed the prefix to "wustl" to keep from outting my UG... if there is a problem accessing the group, let me know.
Posts from the "insecurity" thread are hilarious...
WashU was my only choice, early decision, and I didn't want to go anywhere else. I picked it because less importance is placed on sports (which is a key part of an "Ivy League" school), plus the campus was beautiful and the people were really nice. It would just be nice if people had even an ounce of recognition for WashU. At least know where St. Louis is! We hosted two presidential debates, and we still haven't made it on the map. Ask anyone about Brown or Johns Hopkins or Northwestern, and they know who/what/where. We are ranked above them and we all deserve a little recognition for the fact that we made the cut when we got accepted. It is not an insecurity to want to be acknowledged for your above average performance, and it is certainly not an indication that we weren't good enough for the Ivy League. Granted, no one should blow up when they get a blank stare - we all learn in time to either ignore or inform.

I'm a grad of what you call "wustttl," now at CLS, so unless you go to HYS, I pwn you. sorry dood, that's the way life is.
EDIT: not sure about the other top law schools, but there's about 10-15 of us per class at CLS, so at least some of us survived our TTT-dom.

Nice try on the 10-15 though.

Whenever I tell people where I go to school, they ask why do I want to go to school in the northwest where the weather is so dreary or if I mean Washington and Lee (in Virginia). When I correct them politely, they always get defensive and ask why a school in St. Louis would name itself Washington University.
Its really wierd and annoying.

...than than being mistaken for attending GW, Washington & Lee, UW or any university in DC, is being mistaken for attending WASHBURN University in Topeka, KS.
Last time I was home, a relative asked me if I lived at home (in Kansas City) while I went to school. I told him that a 3.5 hour commute was excessive. He didn't get it; then went on to brag that his son attended Rice. RICE? Please...

....was at a summer block party before freshman year, and this woman who lives down the street asks, "so, where will you be going to school?"
i say, "oh, washington university in st. louis?
to no one's surprise, she responds, "oh, so you'll be living with your parents, then?" (i'm from d.c.)
to which i say, "no, actually it's in st. louis...."
she then has this totally perplexed look on her face (because she doesn't have a clue what or where WashU is), can't find a poignant response, and blurts out "really? i heard that isn't a very good school."
and i think everyone in this group can imagine my frustration after hearing that. let's just say that, from that point, that conversation went south like a duck in winter.
Well gee Matt, I think she was right. Her "perplexed look" was there because she was perplexed that anybody would actually choose to attend WUSTTTL.

*rolls eyes*
I am always astonished by how many people think sports plays a major role at the Ivy league schools.
An article popped up some time ago featuring this California kid who turned down Brown to go to WUSTL, because according to him Brown was full of kids looking to make connections to score an I-banking position while WUSTL was full of laid back artsy kids.
Um....ok.

nah, most people got into Northwestern as well, wustl's in a better area of the city and is more fun than northwestern, at least that was my reasoning, a lot that picked wustl over gtown picked it for geographic reasons, like if they were from STL or chicago, tufts- don't know a single person that applied to tufts, i'm sure there are some though, we split with rice about 50/50. and michigan, right, keep thinking that if you want to, but michigan really isn't very hard to get into.
it's funny because you probably don't go to wustl and probably haven't met more than one or two people that did, yet you're writing this absolute bullshit like you actually know what you're talking about.

dude WUSTL totally sucks. I dont care if it splits 50/50 with harvard 'cause of its 90s advertising blitz, it still sucks and it's not half the school of northwestern or chicago and michigan gets more respect with employers.
maybe they didnt tell you this in the brochure but wustl wasn't any better than Boston University or Tulane in 1990. and it isn't really today, either, except they've played the rankings. of course this comes at a cost, for instance, having a respected department in more than a handful of fields is something WUSTL has yet to muster

So the first sentence of your post is correctly understood to read "Why does US News love WUSTL, Duke and WUSTL so much?"
I could assume that is somekind of impossibly wry hyper existential contribution to the thread where you are actually confusing WUSTL, not with GW or UW, but with WUSTL itself.

"Okay, it's been 2 years since I've graduated, and this entire time, I'd resigned to the fact that no one in San Diego's heard of this school, but I've managed not to mind. Nevertheless, after stumbling upon this group again, I'm starting to wonder if I should come up with a smart-assy reply to everyone having trouble locating my school. Any ideas?"

I could get from WUSTL's main campus to two casinos and 8-10 strip clubs in less than ten minutes.

Chicago > WUSTL
Northwestern > WUSTL
Michigan = WUSTL
Even in the Midwest, there's no reason to go to WUSTL.
