was the “Great Depression” really that bad?

sounds like bros just put their feet up, drank dirt cheap beer and whiskey, ate decent meals full of potatoes and hotdogs and cornmeal improvised by their thrifty and devoted wives, and then caught the baseball game on the radio while the kids played stickball and hopscotch out front.
why does everyone refer to it in this pearl clutching way, like oh nooooooo 1 in 4 able bodied american men couldnt wagecuck for a few years it was a catastropheeeeee

Well, somebody told us Wall Street fell
But we were so poor that we couldn't tell
Cotton was short and the weeds were tall
But Mr. Roosevelt's gonna save us all

Really is the key even during the alleged Great Depression most people who looked for work found it. Look around your office, probably 1/4 of the employees are worthless. So those guys went on a diet for a few years nbd

Bottom 25%: really, really, bad.
Third quartile: times were very tight but had a roof over the head and sufficient food on the table, and usually lodgers/family members living in.
1st and 2nd quartiles: life went on as usual.
Look, if a quarter of the population is struggling to afford food, times are bad no matter how you spin it.
In short, yes, it was bad.

compared to what's coming, no.
during the Great Depression, friendly white people like John Boy from The Waltons would give you a bowl of soup from the backdoor of their kitchen if you were a down-on-your-luck stranger passing through. there was a communal feeling, despite the grim circumstances.
now imagine the same economic hardship, but the country is 70% multiracial haitian and afro-latino, and the skies are filled with Jewish ZOG drones.

Seems like a myth generated by NYC based media because a lot of newly rich urban types lost everything in the crash and made a lot of noise about it.
But 99% of the country lived rural, didn't have a dime in the stock market, and basically lived off the land before the crash came along. So the great crash arrives and they had to cut back on nickel movies and once a week soda pop? These were my grandparents and great grandparents. They didn't have it great but they didn't pile all their belongings on a donkey and head to California either. There are always idiots who think moving around will help them somehow like all the blue collars who have piled into Texas the last couple years making it unlivable.
