That's how it works? Why isn't this guy a mildly popular Twitter account rather than an eight figure per year "personality"? Is he particularly insightful? I haven't seen it myself

his first book the end of faith made him well known and it was extremely non-pc. he basically says muslims cant be part of the west and includes tidbits like antisemitism is partially caused by jews.
FACT CHECK: While Jesus was indeed a kike, the claim is misleading because it omits important context that is further elucidated by various C.S. Lewis psychobabble...
In summary, we rate this dangerous misinformation FOUR PINOCCHIOS.

He's paraphrasing Christian doctrine for modern readers, not saying anything novel.
And keep in mind that you can make any worldview (including your unusually eloquent version of Reddit atheism) sound profound and wonderful, or the exact opposite, or anything in between.
So you have to look beyond the rhetoric with QUITE LITERALLY everything.

How does one get a "first book" even published with his resume at the time, much less have it turn into a mega bestseller? This is like asking why droopy eyed "Lisping Lex" Fridman of Drexel University has Bill Gates and GSP on his podcast

Fridman was born in Chkalovsk, Russia, Soviet Union, on 15 August 1983, and raised in Moscow.[6] Fridman is of Ukrainian-Jewish descent,[7][8] as his father is Jewish and was born in Kyiv[9][10] while his grandmother was born and raised in Kharkiv[11] and his grandfather was a machine-gunner in the Soviet Army in Ukraine against the Nazis during World War II.[12] His father, Alexander Fridman, is a plasma physicist, as well as the John A. Nyheim Chair Professor and Director of the C.J. Nyheim Plasma Institute at Drexel University College of Engineering, holding a PhD from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.[13]

The book is how we can use science to objectively determine the right answers to moral questions, but then he just assumes his own conclusion by arguing that group utilitarianism is “obviously” the best moral worldview and so he won’t bother justifying it or answering any counterarguments. Absolutely worthless book.
He was one of the big New Atheist writers in the 2000s along with Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens. I assume his current popularity is just from coasting off of that name recognition

No, it's just that the creme rises to the top. Harris is a natural born thought leader with Great Ideas. Natural aristocrats can't help but assert themselves on the world stage.
Under the guise of scientific objectivity, Harris has presented deeply flawed data to perpetuate fear of Muslims and to argue that black people are genetically inferior to whites. In a 2017 podcast, for instance, he argued that opposition to Muslim immigrants in European nations was “perfectly rational” because “you are importing, by definition, some percentage, however small, of radicalized people.” He assured viewers, “This is not an expression of xenophobia; this is the implication of statistics.” More recently, he invited Charles Murray on his podcast. Their conversation centered on an idea that lies far outside of scientific consensus: that racial differences in IQ scores are genetically based. Though mainstream behavioral scientists have demonstrated that intelligence is less significantly affected by genetics than environment (demonstrated by research that shows the IQ gap between black and white Americans is closing, and that the average American IQ has risen dramatically since the mid-twentieth century), Harris still dismissed any criticism of Murray’s work as “politically correct moral panic.”
For posters on TRS, Harris’ work blended easily into that of more overtly racist writers like Paul Kersey, whose popular blog, “Stuff Black People Don’t Like,” is reposted on American Renaissance. The site “really gets the noggin joggin and encourages you to search for answers,” one user wrote. Their “biggest stepping stone” was from Harris’ work to Kersey’s blog: “It was there I learned about race realism, IQ, genetics, bell curves, and the economic/political drivers behind the pushing of ‘diversity.’”

Ever notice how Jews always criticize white conservative people for being "obsessed with race," yet the former are always trying to deceive the latter about their actual race - and just as importantly, deceive about their actual loyalties (their cosmopolitan Tribe always comes first).

He would be completely unknown if Ben Affleck didn't go Yosemite Sam on him during a live tv show. And he only got on that show because he held an unpopular belief that the tv host happened to share with him.

I found his autistic podcast with Jordan Peterson entertaining in the moment. Most people just graciously move past all the random illogical things that Peterson says in the spirit of having a reasonable conversation. But for like 2 hrs Harris just would not move on from the definition of “true”.
