Friends was a well-written show, well acted show, but it wasn't 1/10th as revolutionary as Seinfeld. However, at this point it is arguably more watched and more loved than Seinfeld, because the characters just seemed like people's "friends." It's the TV equivalent of HGTV - people are just comforted by it.
A good modern comparison is 30 Rock vs Parks and Rec. 30 Rock was a much more inventive, better written show. But people probably rewatch Parks and Rec more because they feel a connection to the characters. |
