The 2023 armed forces are a fucking joke and can more accurately be thought of as a massive welfare program - it may have always been one, but at least previously there were wars to fight and a non-trivial chance of those in the "armed forces" seeing combat. The squatemalan beaner woman in US military fatigues walking through the airport on her way to "war" (i.e., sucking more resources from the governmental fisc) who performs a ministerial office role overseas perfectly encapsulated our modern "military."
