but as I read the fallout from this interview, its mind blowing. MM makes cautious, documentable claims.. after spending 30 minutes establishing GAE bona fides (defense contractor, friend to black people, etc).
And nor does he shy away from inculpating Germany and Hitler.
But that he is even *doing* history about our foundational modern religious / psychological EVENT is enough to force an all hands on deck condemnation. Liz Cheney crawled out of somewhere to damn him. "Three Year Letterman", an aging comedy account, suddenly dropped character to damn him. Academic historians across the board are losing their shit.
And he wasnt even throwing stones at 6 million or whatever. Just arguing, "Look Germany didnt want war with the UK, much less the US. Its all here, in the papers. Its fact. Maybe the allies had to pursue war, for moral reasons or what have you - beside the point. Point is, when you pursue a war, you hold some share of responsibility for what happens in war."

his claim is that hitler didnt want any part of a war with the UK, much less the US. (And even France, though that is a more tenuous claim).
He even allows that the UK may have had justifiable reasons for pursuing war (geopolitical and moral). But that the war between the UK and Germany was the UK's desire, not Germany's.
I do not see how this is at all controversial, unless you have a vested interest in a childish morality play where the Germans were cartoonishly irrational and evil. And the point is, yes, you do have that vested interest. |

His podcast on the history of the founding of Israel (Fear and Loathing in New Jerusalem) was balanced and one of the best things I’ve listened to. I’m not a huge fan personally of Cooper’s politics, but who cares, he’s clearly a bright guy who knows a ton about 19th and 20th century history. |
