Date: February 1st, 2025 3:51 PM Author: Fragrant ruddy gas station what inspired my rant today is that they don't really understand roster-building or how important fit is in building a team. caitlin clark's team is making some very smart off season moves to land better players and give them a shot at a title run next season. they have made two separate moves to address their issues: they signed an experienced free agent and were also part of a 3-way trade with two other teams.
they signed a really great player in free agency a few days ago (this player will fit in PERFECTLY with cc's playstyle) and separately needed to trade the toxic, shitty player (who does not fit in with CC's playstyle) that they had under contract currently in that position. to do so, they had to give up the #8 draft pick of this season in what is sure to be a very weak draft outside of the top 3-4 players. so its really not a big loss. in exchange they also got a solid role player in the trade that fits in very well with their playstyle. and people (women, mostly) are commenting negatively on the trade and about how valuable that #8 pick is. its NOT a valuable pick if there are only 4 good players in the draft. and they were able to get rid of a mediocre player with a shitty attitude that had a contract they didn't want to pay out.
im in a conversation w/some people right now and the two men in the conversation agree with me that you have to look at these two separate moves together and overall they are a huge positive. they got rid of a terrible power forward and a #8 draft pick and got a great free agent and a solid role player. the stupid women in the conversation are hung up on the trade and the fact that the team didn't get more for that #8 pick and keep insisting how valuable it is. and keep just parroting the stats (points/rebounds) of the player traded away and trying to insist that she has more value than she does. they keep quoting some espn talking head that rated the trade portion of the above badly. (the talking head is wrong, frankly) the women are completely unable to think for themselves.
this is probably a more long-winded explanation than you were looking for, but basically any time i have tried to engage with (female) wnba fans online in any environment, they only look at stats, parrot what they read in other places, and can't think for themselves because they don't actually understand basketball. |
