its amazing to think about the advances in not only graphics but also gameplay etc - the entire "ourve" of the video game industry grew by leaps and bounds every couple years. the span of 1995-2000 had literally dozens of all time classics released every year, just jaw dropping. Overwhelming.
Then around 2005, after XBOX 360 and PS3 were out, gaming advances more or less stopped.
Sure graphics are prettier now, but even though they might be technically way better they don't look a ton better, and a lot of PS3 and 360 games still look pretty damn good today.
And the gameplay options and advances just stopped after 2005 or so (other than VR). Back then you had sims, shooters, third person shooters, platformers, RPGs, etc etc etc - today its the exact same genres. Same fucking gameplay, controls, etc. Even the controllers peaked with PS3/360 - its the Same Controller and controller layouts 20 years later.
I'm sure there are some niche genres that I am not thinking of, but every big genre now was the same shit, same gameplay and controls, almost the same graphics, etc in 2005.
