I would recommend visiting Soyuzivka, which is a Ukrainian heritage center. They have hotel rooms for reasonable rates, a nice pool to relax at and some of the best hiking and scenic views you can ask for. It's in close proximity to other natural attractions like waterfalls, lakes etc.

I am a Finger Lakes MFE, and taking questions.
My favorite is Canandaigua. Charming downtown, but it's the best lake. Not too big, not too small.
Enjoy a drive down west lake road to Naples, NY. Sample the grape pie at Monica's, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Try to get out on a boat.
Canandaigua has a little island called Squaw Island, where the indians would put their women while under attack. Fun place to moor a sail boat and swim in.
Also, if youre into fossils, there are cliffs along the SW corner of the lake. Not so many anymore, as the megamansions are sprawling (See Danny Wegman's houses!), but you can moor off the edge and swim in the cliff and find trilobites, etc.
Geneva is also a very charming little town.
The lakes, esp the smaller ones, have developed algae trouble in the 2000s, due to Boomers overloading their lawns with fert. Best to go there around now, before the height of summer when the blooms can even shut down some lakes. Bigger lakes are cleaner.
Seneca, I believe, is one of the deepest freshwater lakes that is not a great lake. The navy used to do submarine shit there
