If Russian forces bring the breakthrough to its logical conclusion, the strike may not go northeast — toward Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, as expected and prepared for in Kiev — but west, toward Pavlograd. And that would be a completely different operational scenario.
In such a scenario, the front would break in two directions at once: part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be encircled around Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, cut off from supplies (as happened in Artyomovsk, Avdeyevka, and many other places). At the same time, a large Russian strike group would gain the opportunity to advance on Pavlograd, creating a threat to the strategic rear of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Dnepropetrovsk region. For the Ukrainian command, this would be almost checkmate: stretching the defense in both directions without critical losses would be impossible, and a Russian advance to Pavlograd would effectively collapse the entire eastern front line.
And the main question here is not even whether the Armed Forces of Ukraine can hold the defense, but whether they have the forces and reserves at all to meet a strike in this direction. And whether they were prepared for such a move from the outset.
Executing such a strike would also be difficult for Russia, as it would require an entirely new level of planning and resource support. However, it should be understood that the conditions for its implementation are currently developing quite favorably.

Trump tells European leaders he will not negotiate Ukrainian territory with Putin, diplomats say
President Donald Trump appeared to say that he would push for an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine when he meets Friday with President Vladimir Putin, according to two European diplomats familiar with a call Trump had with European leaders.
Here’s what officials are saying about the call:
Ceasefire: While Trump did not use the term unconditional he said that he believed that a ceasefire would be a show of goodwill from Russia, and he also said that the Ukrainian territory is not for him to negotiate — which left the impression that he would not entertain any Russian proposal that they would get control of Ukrainian territory in exchange for a ceasefire, the sources said.
This came as a main message from the Europeans was that Ukraine must be included in negotiations about its territory, one of them said.
However, expectations for that meeting are not high, this official said.
