Arkansas needs rain, and I mean a LOT of rain.
We’re now dealing with the worst long-term drought conditions we’ve seen since 2012. January through August was the 10th driest on record in Arkansas going all the way back to 1895, and August itself was the 21st driest.
Right now, 76.8% of Arkansas is in severe, extreme or exceptional drought. If your yard looks like it gave up sometime in July, there’s a reason. Trees are dying. Leaves are falling but not from color - they are dead.
There is at least some hope. Rain chances are showing up as we close out September and head into October, although nobody knows yet how much we’ll actually get. Looking farther ahead, El Niño could increase our chances of a wetter pattern later this fall and into winter.
At this point, I’d just like to hear rain hitting the roof for about three days straight.
