What were the hours of your typical absence? Did you also take a family car?

Yes, often, and to the point I had no curfew by junior year. My room was in the basement and there was a door right outside. My parents initially put in a lock that needs a key on either side. I gave up on the door and started using my window which was even easier. Initially We would sneak out and go to the neighborhood pool. Cops and families all understood this. As we got older some idiots did vandalism and ruined it for us. This was around 8th grade. Later in highschool it wasn't as much about me sneaking out (I could leave whenever) but about sneaking people into my room.

I walked out the front door

My parents trusted me and I told them exactly what I was going to do even if it was illegal like drink on the beach

I built enough reputation and respect that they didn't need to worry. I had my own car and job and helped (in what little way I could) with the bills also cleaned the house unprompted and was basically a respectful child of my parents and their boundaries
