The “protective ceiling” is also translated as “sheltering canopy” (Emerick), “guarded canopy” (Shakir), and “canopy well guarded” (Yousuf Ali).
Once again, though the Quranic reference to the ozone layer and other protective layers is indirect, it clearly speaks about a ceiling that serves to protect the planet earth. If one argues about the verses being too vague and stretched to fit into modern concepts, then what alternative conclusions can be drawn from this and other indirect verses?
The verse could also be pointing towards the magnetic field surrounding planet earth that is well known to protect the earth from many catastrophic events.
