1981 is not gen x. both ohnoes and upset jew had catastrophic meltdowns when confronted with these facts. upset jew spammed fulano shit in response, literally lost his mind. what happened that year that this group of misfits wont claim it? was it aids or something.

its bizarre, this place has always had a number of insane people who will go into 100 post subthread wastelands to die on the hill that millennials start at 1982 when there is no support for this and everywhere else you look the consensus has landed at 1981 or earlier as the start year

Born in fall 81= class of 2000 high school grad, ie definitionally millennial. Cutoff is Sept 81 unless you want to vary it according to your local school cutoff. Fits many of the best other tests and resolve the problem of boomers having 19 years v 16 for Gen X and that fueling boomers’ use of generation ranges to assert their cultural dominance and persistence. Similarly the correct and obvious best choice for end of millennials/start of Gen Z is were old enough to vote on Election Day 2016.

I'm class of 2000, and I can tell you that my entire life people called us the "millennial" class. They made tshirts for it and everything when I was in first grade

Everything about millennialism, at least from credible sources, supports the class that graduated in 2000 as the start of the millennials. That's not meant to be a slight to anyone. Just the truth. But I can see how a genxer who misses the cutoff could feel hurt

The bulk of the 1980 Gen X cutoff influence/sentiment originates with Pew, which had an obvious incentive to push the “big boomer gen dominates tiny Gen X” narrative. The other main source is this dumb “challenger explosion” test, which is self-obsessed boomers tying the definition to themselves/their perception and their infantilization of Gen X (ie construing all of Gen X as confused and scared kindergarteners, while a 1965er was a sophomore in college). The much better tests around 9/11 (did you go to sleep in your parents house that night ie did you see the people in the towers as peers of your parents or as if they could have been people your age like college interns, and did you process the event with peers away from parents v with your parents), and the early 90s cultural touchstones when Gen X first claimed the cultural center from the boomers. All of those put 81 in Gen X.

Look bro it's called "millennial" because the Gen turned 18 in 2000. That's the Entire Point. Some Frauds tried to later back-revise it to 1981 because they wanted Gen Z to start in 1996 for Aesthetics, and you're not allowed to have a Gen less than 15 years. You and ggtp are btfo itt imo

1996 is so utterly moronic. The cleanest and best gen dividing line of all is Election Day 2016. This was obvious at the time but became unavoidably true after Election Day 2024.

Here's my generation classification take. I know there are Rules that this doesn't necessarily fit into, but I think there should be a generation defined by COVID interfering with formative years of education/childhood development. Something like 2003-2021, or maybe a later start date if we count fewer years as formative.

The cut off for Gen Z will be 2015 ie “were you old enough to have attended kindergarten via zoom.” It’s a massive dividing line because that cohort was taught to see screens as 10+ hour a day devices and had basically free access to YouTube that was unblockable by parents until the recent spate of activism in the past 6 months (and these battles with school districts are still raging) so these kids will have had KG-puberty with a YouTube Wild West burden on their education and cognitive development and this bizarre distortion of their cultural and media taste preferences.

Well put. That's exactly what I was getting at with COVID interfering with formative years. I don't think it makes sense for alpha to go all the way to 2024 (as is the current consensus) since kids born after COVID didn't have that experience.

Alpha will go to 2032 and the dividing line will be born before or after POTUS for Life AOC’s total chaos communism regime.

I'm glad I'm not a genxer. I would be devastated to be part of the generation that was supposed to take over from the boomers but couldn't

Now we've been thrust into that role, and we're probably going to be even fucking worse. All because genxers couldn't get their shit together

Reagan's 1981 budget bill was the last time we tried to be truly fiscally responsible. By 1982, facing disastrous polling, Reagan pivoted to "borrow and spend". This abandonment by the GOP of fiscal conservatism, still with us today, made them the deepstate allies of big-gov libs. That cabal has created the debt albatross that will destroy American millennials for decades to come.
