Date: June 9th, 2026 10:18 PM Author: chartreuse talented sound barrier stag film I was rereading an old book, no science fiction book by the famous science fiction writer Robert Heinlein, entitled orphans of the sky, I think it was first published in a magazine entitled orphans as a short story in some sci-fi Pope magazine I think that was back in the 1940s.. anyway, one thing that popped up in the book was that the guy took on a young wife and it was kind of a primitive situation where he kind of kidnapped her or whatever and forced her to go with him on this spacecraft and land on a planet, and she get apparently put up a fight or something or she got in fight with him and he knocked her around a bit and there were a couple mentions of bruises and missing teeth and stuff.. so you know there was a time back and say the 1940s where you know men might knock their wives around a bit and it wasn't a mess to you know make that a point in a story. Men used to read stuff stories and books and stuff they don't do that anymore but back when they did books catered to them and I think this story was written in some kind of pulp sci-fi magazine which I think Men read. What a great world it was back then bordello's prostitution houses etc etc boarding houses where you can stay for cheap.. you can live for cheap get laid for cheap.. you could go down and drink booze for cheap everything was cheap you didn't have to work all the time if you decided to quit working for a while it was no big deal nowadays if you take a couple years off from work you basically ruin your career.. anyway that was the world that was, it was really before my time than 1940s etc but you could see traces of it.. and we're just in this weird world now where everything is so puritanical.. a bad place (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=5872639&forum_id=2#49926737) |

Date: June 10th, 2026 6:12 AM Author: chartreuse talented sound barrier stag film Actually I don't think the protagonist of the novel kidnapped the girls, he had two wives that he was taking on as he was going to leave his current spaceship in the ship's launch and he had two wives through arranged marriages.. one of the wives was an older wife like in her 20s or whatever 25, etc, and the other wife was a younger wife maybe a teenager, and she was the troublesome one and it was just kind of a passing thing noted in The narrative of the novel that he knocked around a little bit during their fights.. that's just the way it was back then.. that's what men wanted to hear to read a little violence.. they wanted to hear how they were the you know dominant player in the marriage.. that's how science fiction was in the pulp magazines of the 40s I guess.. it truly was a different time.
