Poast new message in this thread
Date: March 8th, 2007 9:22 PM Author: Carnelian native
In 3 years of posting, this is my first and last eponymous thread title, with my one and only moniker. Thanks for the laughs and occasional non-shitty information. I will check in on this thread when I feel like it until graduation, if any questions come up. Admissions, classes, exams, Boston, MPRE, summer jobs, clerkships, UCLA, Georgetown, ask me whatever you want. After graduation, I'm sure I will visit from time to time, but there's no more benefit to be had, and a substantial risk it seems, in posting as "myself."

I don't think I will be, at least in the current sense. There is a tension here between anonymity and identity. If the purposes of autoadmit could be served by true anonymity, then the board would have no authors--every post would be written by anonymous. Without exposing true identities and the chilling effect that would have, the autoadmit system of sustained but concealed identities, like mine, creates a lot of value. This compromise system is being badly and I think perhaps permanently undermined. That's a shame.
So, I might post messages here, but never under a sustained identity, and only for information exchange.

What are some good areas/neighborhoods in Boston to move to? I need to sublet a 2BR apartment for the summer (May - August), then find a 1BR apartment to live in from September until whenever. I have a car but I'm expecting to use public transportation heavily. I hear that car insurance in MA is horribly expensive...should I sell the car before my insurance expires? I'll have a 2 month window from the time I move there. Would like a safe, quiet neighborhood w/ access to some good grocery stores. Nightlife and/or cultural offerings aren't really a concern; I'm willing to travel for that stuff.

I sold my car after I got here because parking and insurance was such a clusterfuck. I'd advise you do that.
Live near school. With your requirements, I'd say Central square, south of Mass ave is pretty good. Walk to Whole Foods/Trade Joes, a number of things to do, Red Line access, and a reasonable walk to school. Porter square area would also have red line plus supermarket.

So just rent when I need one (car)? I have family living in Providence that I want to visit regularly.
Also, I'm not moving to Boston to attend school. Does that change your recommendation? (Not going there for a job either. But I will get one once I'm there. Got enough cash to get an apartment w/o a job.)

hi fjackie, it's me, evan. you're smart to get while the getting's good. peace, and good luck with your clerkship.
this will be my only post, so i wanted to say to the board:
i never thought xoxo would get this bad. i know i'm a sinner too, but this turns my stomach. i'm glad i left.
if you're among those responsible for this, then you're in the throes of some orgy of unrestrained cruelty and revenge i don't really understand. i suspect you don't get what you're doing either - it all looks like impulse and oneupsmanship to me. but please stop.
if you're disgusted like i am, well, maybe it'll get better. best wishes to everyone.
PS fulano and chiashu are fags

A good chunk? OK.
EDIT: I am so wise. I may not be the next SCOTUS clerk, but I did pretty well--upper end of cum laude, decent COA clerkship, several nice job offers.

I did about a 6.0 1L year, 5.75 2L, and 6.5 3L. And I took only one seminar and no clinicals in that whole span. I took all the boring stuff... admin, fed courts, tax, corps, con law, evidence, sec reg, remedies, bankruptcy, etc. It's not in the studying--it's in the exam. When it comes to studying, you can learn it from the cases/lecture, or you can go with commercial outlines if that works better. It doesn't much matter as long as you get the basics. The key is picking apart the fact pattern into the key things the professor wanted you to see, and writing at length on those items. Once you take enough exams, the tricks in the fact pattern start to stand out. I also found that hyper-organized exam answers are best. Lots of subheadings and signposts will put a smile on the profs face as he is slogging through 100 exams.
