I'm really just fine with gay dudes.
It's the gay dudes who dress up like straight-laced, Bible-thumping conservatives, then get caught trying to pay a random guy to stick his dick in their mouth who make me loller.

isn't it common sense that the party that supports giving FAR less rights to gays would also contain many more members that are homophobic and use slurs like "faggot"? if that isn't obvious to you, then you're a lost cause.
news from today (7/11/07):
Today, Sens. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., and Gordon Smith, R-Ore., filed the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act(S. 1105) as an amendment for consideration to the Department of Defense reauthorization currently being debated before the U.S. Senate. The bill, commonly referred to as the “hate crimes bill,” could receive a Senate vote as early as today. The virtually identical House version of the bill passed overwhelmingly on May 3, 2007, with a bipartisan vote of 237 to 180 — with more than 20 Republicans voting in support of the bill.....
TheMatthew Shepard Act is supported by more than 290 law enforcement, civil rights, civic and religious organizations. Some of those supporting organizations include the National Sheriffs Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, 26 state attorneys general, the National District Attorneys Association, the NAACP, the Episcopal Church, the League of Women Voters, the YWCA of the USA and the United Methodist Church....
This legislation would help combat hate crimes across America by doing two important things: updating the federal hate crimes laws to include all Americans, and providing new resources and tools to assist local law enforcement in prosecuting these vicious crimes.
In addition to this year’s overwhelming, bipartisan vote in the House to support this legislation, both the Senate and House have voted in favor of legislation to combat bias-motivated violence in prior Congresses. Most recently, in the 109th Congress, the House of Representative approved its hate crimes bill as an amendment on a bipartisan vote of 223 to 199. House and Senate votes were held in the 106th and 108th Congress as well. In the 108th Congress, the Senate passed the measure by an overwhelming vote of 65 to 33, with 18 Senate Republicans voting yes, and the House approved it on a bipartisan vote of 213 to 186, with 31 Republicans voting yes.

not supporting gay marriage =/= hatred of homosexuals. HTH.
"fag" or "faggot" are fairly common terms throughout society. I'm sure plenty of the the more rural GOP-lean voters use it, just as plenty of more urban left-leaning voters use it. Its possible that more Republicans use the term, but I certainly don't think its a foregone conclusion.

The likely Democratic nominee has very high negatives. Although I don't think this will be determinative, it certainly doesn't lend to optimism. The GOP has very good campaign resources, and Hillary gives them a lot to work with.
Thompson, while not my favorite candidate, may very well be the candidate to satisfy the base. Additionally, the "satisfying the base" theory will only matter in two situations.
A) Either the less devoted portions of the base become swing votes
or
B) the dissatisfaction with the candidates doesn't encourage voter turnout
Unfortunately for the left, the candidates they've pushed have made A) unlikely. Hillary's high negatives will probably preclude many Americans from giving her extended consideration, and this most certainly includes conservatives. Additionally, Obama's leftist policies would probably keep many moderate conservatives from coming across the aisle. His best shot would be to keep his optimistic and non-confrontational persona intact, but I think this is unlikely. Similar to the damage Edwards inflicted upon himself after becoming VP candidate for Kerry, the "who hates the right more" contest that is the DNC will likely ruin some of Obama's more moderate appeal.
Again, the most likely candidate, Clinton, will probably keep B) from happening. She is undoubtedly the best rallying point the GOP has, and the risk of having Hillary in the WH will ensure a strong GOP presence at the polls. I think this goes for Obama as well, though he obviously isn't as divisive. However, given that this is an especially contentious election cycle and that the swing sits mostly with the left at present, I think turnout will not be a liability for the GOP.

I don't think this is very likely to be determinative. In the article it notes that many of the donors making the switch are from NY or Illinois, which certainly aren't being counted among red states. Also, the number of people making that switch is fairly small at this point.
I still find it very difficult to believe that you don't see any chance for the GOP in 2008.
Obviously we've seen how Rudy stacks up against Hillary, but I found a couple of recent Rasmussen polls interesting. She's currently tied (at 45) with Thompson, and even more interesting, she leads Romney only 46-42. I'm not someone who puts much faith in early polls, but I think this makes it difficult to believe that the GOP has little or no shot in 2008.
I'm out for the night, I'll check back tomorrow to see if you've added anything.
