Orioles: Cabrera allowed eight runs on 10 hits while walking four batters over 4 1/3 innings in his last start against the Angels. The 26-year-old hasn't won since Aug. 14 and is 0-4 with an 8.28 ERA over that span. He is 3-4 with a 3.90 ERA in his career against the Yankees.
Yankees: Hughes won his first game since Aug. 10 in his last start, pitching six innings of one-run ball to best the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander said he benefited from realizing that he didn't have his best swing-and-miss stuff, an impressive on-field adjustment from a 21-year-old still getting his feet wet in the big leagues. Pitching aggressively but relying more on changing speeds, Hughes let his defense do the work and continued to prove he deserves to work in a pennant race. He faced the Orioles on Aug. 15 at Yankee Stadium, yielding three runs (two earned) over five innings in a 6-3 loss.
