I think Madrid blows severely. Over-rated, nothing much of interest, and the Madrilenos are nowhere near as gregarious/out-going as I would have expected. Also, outside of a few streets in the city core, it's quite non-descript. Many Latin American capitals are better.
Frankfurt is about as ascetic and lacking in personality as any place I've ever been.
London is Brooklyn redux...but with far uglier people and worse weather.

What rocks about it? I found it utterly dull and uninspired.
Now, Andalucia --places like Seville and Cadiz--rock. That's what Mediterranean culture is all about....but Madrilenos are almost ashamed to admit their Iberian roots and seem to want to be German.

That's the worst part --the Brit infestation.
Spain is basically a suburb of England.

Yes --but at least Andalucia is truer to its Mediterranean roots.
To be frank, I don't care much for Spain, at all. Much prefer Italy and France.

I dont even know what the fuck this means.
For the purposes of this thread, its definitely a place to skip on a roadtrip. For living, I think its one of the best cities in Europe.

ashamed to admit their Iberian roots??? want to be german? wtf. thats a better way to describe barcelona. this makes me think you dont know madrid at all.
people in madrid completely enjoy their lives; there are tons of public squares and side streets tucked away with tapas places.
the clubs are better than in ny and most of europe. the booze volume is insane. madrilenos regularly stay out until 6 on a weeknight. people are well styled and attractive.

No, no, and no. At least not in my opinion :)
I found them the least stylish, least gregarious, least cultured Mediterranean major city dwellers.
They saty out late, sure --but they are not particularly festive or boisterous. They're horribly quiet(for Meds, that is). To suggest that the nightlife surpasses NY's is laughable, really.
Give me Rome or Paris over Madrid, any day.

No, not for nightlife, per se. In totality.
Italian nightlife, overall, really rather blows -- but in totality, the country is my favorite on the continent.

I love italy and the people and the food, but thats right re nightlife.
srsly if you dont think madrid nights are the best in the world you probably werent at the right places. its roughly 10-12 pregaming with friends, 12 until 2 or 4 at some bars, and no one shows up at a club before 2.

and yes Rome is a horrible place for nightlife

Pretty, but grey and dreary --over-rated-- and it doesn't even feel particularly nostalgic or romantic.

Hey, come on.
London isn't the prettiest city, but it has some of the best architecture in the western world. The mix of Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian buildings all throughout central London is very handsome and attractive, and I find London a much more pleasurable city on the eye than New York. The latter is decidedly more awe-inspiring, I will concede.
And no, London doesn't look like Brooklyn, not at all.
Want to rule out any Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Belgian cities?
I like the royal aspect to British culture. It provides an undeniable stamp of personality and history that's missing from many other cultures. London without the royals would be unthinkable.

It's a good place to live.
It's good representative of a generic European city with all the bits there. The quaint historic square, a couple palaces, some baroque buildings, some Victorian monstrosities, and some modern towers.

Cold and dark. The sun doesn't exist between November and March. As a working person, the only time you will be outside while it's light are on the weekends.
More provincial than most people realize.
Quite small.
