? about WOW in law school

1. How many hours a week can I play WOW? Should I do this?
2. Should I join a PVP server? I'm currently on a PVE.
3. Give me best race/class for my character.

To have any success in it, you need to put in 30+ hours per week at a minimum. And that's just for a PVE raiding guild where you'd raid a few nights a week and need to use off nights to farm shit. If you want to be a superstar PvPer you need to put in 50-80 hours per week and that still may not be enough to get you top rankings. Your classmates are all going to be roughly as smart/talented as you, yet most of them aren't going to burden themselves with such a massive timesink. At a decent law school, the curve is going to be fairly tight and not a lot will separate an A/A- from a B+/B.
You will have LOTS of time to play games your 1L year, but you need to play something like Mass Effect that is either easy to quit when you need to do work, or has a definite end to it so if you get totally addicted at least you can power through and beat the game. |

Doesn't mean it's a great use of time for a 1L, but put it in perspective. There are a lot of goals you can meet that don't require a person to follow either path. |

You're pretty much going to need a 70 before you can start on that, and getting a 70 takes awhile for a non-addict. (There are brackets for non-70s, but the people you see competing in those will have spent massive amounts of gold on their "twink" characters. Yeah, you feel a bit satisfied with yourself when you finally fill out your Tier 1 blue armor. Then you're sitting at the auction house in Ironforge, and some faggot night elf blinged out in purples walks by and laughs at you, and you can't really argue because you know you're his virtual bitch. You could /duel him, but we both know how that will end. You decide to get the purples yourself, you want to show him who the real bitch is, so you start getting keyed up to go a-raidin'. After a few weeks of near misses (your shoulders drop but you get DKPwned by someone who has been there a lot longer), you get your first purple and you are hooked. But at that point, the d00d that pwn3d you is already working on his second tier epic set. You know you'll never catch him at that rate, so you start to play moar, not knowing that there isn't a lot you can do to accelerate the process. Finals are coming, you've been to class half the time, maybe less, and you're banking hard on those outlines a 'friend' forwarded you. But what you don't know is that he kept the best outlines for himself and only sent you leftovers (competition is a bitch, even among friends), and when you get slammed with that first hypo on your property exam, you realize that maybe 3 days of half looking over a gimped outline, half playing WoW weren't enough to comprehend all of the variations of contingent remainders. You buckle down for the rest of exam period, only playing WoW a few hours each day, but it isn't enough. Grades come out, you're below the median (not by much though, you were more talented than your classmates and just didn't 'apply' yourself), and you realize how fucked you are. You start searching for a 1L job (whoops! you never did do that dec. 1 mass mailing because your guild promised you those epic leggings next time they dropped and besides, "nobody gets a good 1L job anyways.") Throughout the spring semester, you continue to play WoW, a little less though...you attend class a bit more and send out a few resumes. Eventually you realize that you just aren't getting a good job, so you buckle down and accept that $8 an hour at Telephone Access to Justice. Spring grades come out and you are pleasantly suprised...a bit above median this time, although your overall gpa is still a hair below. You split your summer between more WoW and pandering to the imagined tort claims of illegal immigrants. 2L oci comes around and you have less interviews than you might have expected. Cadwalader gave you a screening interview mainly out of pity, and you are banking on it hard, but they have no real intention of hiring you. You bomb all 13 of your interviews with varying degrees of failure (playing WoW didn't exactly hone your social skills), and sometime in november, you realize they aren't going to be calling you back. You start a belated mass-mailing campaign, but it's too late. Even with the collective well-wishes of the legal profession that would "just love to hire you, but unfortunately their summer classes were filled in october", it is a largely fruitless endeavor. You do get a callback from a toilet regional firm that pays $15K under market, but you bomb it just like you did your other interviews. Then it's time to gear up for 2L finals. At this point you've stopped playing WoW entirely...a gripping anxiety has seized you and you realize your future is in jeopardy if you don't buckle down. You do well on your exams and get solidly into the top half, but it isn't enough. Everyone is done hiring, and you didn't lower your expectations fast enough (those toilet ID firms at OCI paying $70K are starting to look really good right about now). You spam your resume out to firms that you wouldn't bid on a few months ago even with unlimited bids, but they see it for what it is: an act of desperation...and besides, they also filled their classes back in november. Your 2L summer is coming, and much to your dismay your employment options are not all that different from what was available the year before. Do you go with the comfortable familiarity of Telephone Access To Justice, or do you perhaps take a pay cut to minimum wage (for the biglit experience!) and do car crash cases for a solo ambulance chaser? 3L year provides more of the same...you take some uncurved seminars and can now call yourself "top third" with a straight face, but it's transparent and employers aren't having any of it. You graduate jobless, thinking "it will all change when I pass the bar," but it doesn't. The only offer you get is $30K a year from your 2L "firm" and oh by the way, student loan payments are coming up. You start to think maybe the law isn't for you (it really wasn't, you couldn't even focus for two fucking semesters), and you look at employment options in "business". They laugh at your shitty JD, eventually you take it off your resume and resort to flat out fabricating your employment history during those three years. That does the trick, and you get an interview for and subsequently land a job as a Gamestop Lead Associate for $9 an hour. You contemplate suicide but never man up and go through with it. Occasionally, you log onto XOXO to remind yourself of the prestigious lifestyle you might have had. You see some faggot 0L start a thread wondering "about WOW in law school" and try to provide some friendly advice, which of course goes ignored. This is especially true for anyone who is in the least bit competitive or a perfectionist. You might start out playing casually, but before long you'll find yourself sitting up at 6 AM, thinking that if you can play for just one more hour you'll hit a goal that will satisfy you and let you put the game down for a few days so you can catch up on work.
