Date: November 13th, 2008 10:30 AM Author: mint temple sometimes the douchebaggery of my law school classmates is beyond belief, to the extent that i ask myself, "did that really just happen?" like a couple of weeks ago these guys in front of me were discussing the callousness of a law firm rejection letter. another guy (clearly not their close friend) started bantering with them about it, relating his own experiences, etc. everything seemed chill. then that guy laughed and ask, "hey, can i take a look at the letter?" the guy who received the letter barks, "OF COURSE NOT, IT'S PRIVATE" with a scowl on his face, and turns away. the poor guy (who's a really friendly dude) goes 'oh, okay' and so ends the conversation.
i seriously wanted to punch the fucking dude in the mouth for being so passive aggressive. as a guy myself, i have never once encountered a situation where guys would be bitchy toward EACH OTHER without it being for ironic effect. only in law school. |

While nothing obscene was in the photos, I imagine these were not photos she wanted shared with everyone else in the class. |

From where you normally sit, everything is fair game. The onus is on her to keep her private information concealed. She can do this in a number of ways. Get a laptop with a screen which looks blurry when viewed at an angle, not conduct private business in a public space, or position herself in such a way that it is not possible to view what she is doing.
I think you were in the right here. Ask her to sit somewhere else next time. |

The simple fact is that, whether it's polite or not, people are looking. If you're stupid enough to be doing something on your computer during class that you don't want other people to see, then you deserve to have people see it. You have zero expectation of privacy.
If I'm checking out my favorite sports team, someone behind me invariably comments about it after class. I've made friends this way. Also, a girl next to me in one of my classes purposely looks at things she wants me to see and be interested in or start conversations about. |
